League tables and event management

Portsmouth and District LTA organise a series of tennis leagues throughout Hampsire.  There are a range of mens and ladies leagues, as well as mixed and masters leagues, that are played throughout the Summer and Winter months.

Client brief

The administrators at Portsmouth LTA were managing their fixture lists and results through a set of spreadsheets and word documents, making the processes of setting up fixtures and recording results time-consuming anf error-prone. Angelfish were commissioned to integrate the processes involved in setting up and managing leagues, teams, fixtures and results into a single administrative system and to integrate this into the Portsmouth LTA website. We were subsequently asked to take over the design and hosting of the entire website.

Admin Site (Backend)

• Cloud-based system with password-restricted access for your administrators.
• Setup and manage seasons, leagues and teams.
• Schedule fixtures for each league - on either a single fixture or home and away basis.
• Record results for each fixture and automatically calculate points tables based on matches, sets and games won.
• Manage contacts for each team and fixture secrataries for each league.
• Manage web page contents and latest news.

Website

• Show forthcoming fixtures by date (midweek/weekend)
• Show results and league tables for current and past seasons
• Submit fixture results
• Book travel to and from Isle of Wight (via external ferry company link)

Angelfish comments

Sports fixtures and results are an area in which bespoke data-driven systems such as those Angelfish specialise in creating really come into their own.  The dynamic nature of sports leagues lend themselves perfectly to organisation into a single administative system and the submissions of results allows league tables to be updated in real time.
